Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born in South Africa Union on July 18, 1918, an died in Johannesburg, Gauteng South Africa on December 5, 2013. He was a South African lawyer, anti-apartheid activist, politician and philanthropist who presided over his country's government from 1994 to 1999. He was the first black president to lead the executive branch. As an African nationalist, he presided over the African National Congress (NAC) between 1991 and 1997, and at the international level he was general secretary of the Non-Aligned Movement between 1998 and 2002.
